IPL Format in 2025
As we are in the 18th edition of the IPL. The IPL 2025 is going to have a slightly different structure, with 10 teams divided into two groups. Each group will have the best players and competition. This is how it all works:
- Group Stage
Teams: Each team will play:
- There will be two groups of ten teams.
- Every team will play three games: twice against teams in their group (at home ground and away)
- once against the teams in the same row in the other group; and once against the other four teams in that group.
Each team will play a total of 14 games.
- Playoffs
After the group stage, the top four teams based on their points will move to the playoffs.
Qualifier 1: The top two teams will play each other. The winner goes straight to the final.
Eliminator: The third and fourth place teams will play each other in the eighth round. The winner of this match will move on to Qualifier 2.
Qualifier 2: The person who lost Qualifier 1 will now play the person who won the Eliminator. The last spot in the final goes to the winner of Qualifier.
Total Number of Matches
The IPL Governing Council has decided that there will be 84 matches in the next two seasons. This is to keep up with the tournament’s growth and make sure to balance the players workload.
